Conference Programming

Conference theme: Architects of Change

We are very excited that Chicago will be the host city for the 2012 CEIA Conference.  World renowned for its rich architectural history and tradition, Chicago is the perfect place to come for discussions about how we will shape our future in the field of cooperative education and internships.  Just as Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe took the city from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire to the creation of the Chicago “School” of architecture and gave the world the skyscraper, we will build on our history and explore great new ideas in work integrated learning.

Deadline to submit program session proposal:  November 21, 2011.

CEIA is happy to announce the 49th Annual National Conference, taking place in Chicago, IL on April 15-17, 2012. Educational Sessions are consistently a major highlight of the conference. Your contributions can make a difference, whether to your own professional development or to someone else in the field. There will be over 50 opportunities to present with varying session categories, ranging in times from 15 minutes to 75 minutes. Our goal is to have a large number of educational sessions, to add value to your experience. You are strongly encouraged to submit a proposal, and if you are so inclined, you may submit more than one!

We are seeking topics that will support the conference theme and the following topic-related tracks; there are sample ideas within each track:

Basics - the essentials for starting a program, working with specific constituents, policies and procedures

Research - recent findings and development in your field, theories, evaluation methods, how to publish, how to conduct research

Hot Topics - issues in the news, causing a buzz on your campus

External Relationship Building - cultivating relationships outside of your organization, advisory board development

Professional Development - strategies, assessment, systems thinking, risk management,  as well as personal career directions

Service Learning - defining, how-to’s, incorporating into a curriculum

Staffing/HR - managing staff, current policies and laws, interpretation and application
