Things don’t end; they evolve!

There are numerous reasons about why job candidates, even qualified ones, get overlooked for positions. You’ll rarely, if ever, receive feedback about what went awry. It’s an imbedded, turbulent, and an annoying part of the process with most job-searches. Employers, however, inform job applicants about their status often through automated e-mails or over the phone (not as common now), but they might ghost you.

During the interview process, whether you spoke with someone on a one-on-one basis or to a panel, if there was someone you felt a connection with, ALWAYS request an “event debrief” with this individual. You can’t deny chemistry!

What may happen when you request one?

  • –You will be demonstrating your interest in the position and with improving and strengthening your interview skills.
  • –You show that you are comfortable with or at least making an effort to deal with constructive criticism.
  • –You start to nourish the relationship by staying in touch.

No one can accurately predict the outcome of their interview. You do have absolute control about how you choose to react with being passed over. If the connection with that person was legitimate down the line, if another opportunity opens, you could be encouraged to apply.  After all, things don’t end, they evolve in the job process. If 85% of all jobs are filled through networking, and event debriefs are part of that, how about request more?
