CEIA – STANDING TOGETHER AGAINST RACISM

Dear CEIA Colleagues,

Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and many others in the black community that have been senselessly killed and injured during instances of systemic violence and police brutality.

For too long, individuals in our country have faced racism and endured inequalities. We acknowledge that many of our students, colleagues, and friends are now experiencing loss, anger, and grief. We proudly support those standing together to end racism and enact meaningful, large-scale social change.

The inequalities faced are too often experienced in the world of work. To that end, it is our responsibility to promote anti-racist policies and practices to ensure that all students have access to meaningful opportunities – be it through co-ops, internships, full-time opportunities, and others.

As an organization, CEIA is not standing idly by. A committee was created at the April 2020 board of directors meeting, charged with providing guidance for developing inclusive communications, policies, opportunities for growth, and member engagement. To fully live this core value, CEIA will continue to strive to ensure the association’s board of directors and committees are racially diverse, representing our membership base and the students that we serve.

Diverse voices are essential in providing leadership that will enact inclusive, anti-racist, sustainable policies for work-integrated programs, key experiences that ensure the success of all students we serve. Please continue your good work to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion on your campuses and in your organizations.

Today and always, Black Lives Matter.

In community,
CEIA Board of Directors
